EXILE AND MEMORY
CHOICE VS.COERSION
Who gets to belong, and who gets to define the terms of belonging? In this body of work, I examine the difference between migration by choice and exile by force. Economic migration, even when difficult, is fundamentally different from being driven from one’s home with no choice but to flee. Drawing from Jewish histories of expulsion and displacement, I question how these experiences are remembered, categorized, and rewritten—and how easily those forced into exile can be recast as burdens rather than survivors. The work asks who gets to write history, and whose right to rebuild a life is denied.
